But I think it is actually more like this:
OK maybe not that bad but certainly not as organized as I would have liked!!!
Everything you take has be be negotiated -- do we really need it? Where is it going to go?? OMG we are never going to be able to move around in the van once everything is inside. No room for the rocks and shells that I would have wanted to collect along the way ... or the driftwood ... or the beautiful New Mexican blanket that we might want to buy ... oh well, myth number one explodes. These vans are a bit like Barbie doll houses, they look real but there is also a major aspect of fantasy disguised as a microwave oven, a little fridge, etc...
Myth number two is that you just get into the van and drive off into the sunset ... Hahaha!!! Yesterday was spend rolling around under the van on the cold driveway trying to figure out how to empty the water tank -- there is a 'grey water' tank (which holds all the water coming out of the sink) and there is a potable water tank that is the source of running water. There was antifreeze in the 'plumbing" for the winter and we had to drain it all out then rinse and rinse and rinse more so all the water won't taste and look pink (it is supposed to be biodegradable and non-toxic but who believes that?). Shouldn't all these things be explained in the instruction manual?? Nothing. Meanwhile the alarm system keeping going off (no instructions!!) and all the neighbours for a radius of 10 km have probably figured out that we are leaving ... ;(
In my dreams, all of our camping spots will look something like these:
Let's hope reality doesn't look too much like this (or at least, not too often!)...
Time is ticking ... I better go stuff a few more things in the van and GO ...
Au revoir Montréal!!
ciao xx
